Question

75 persons Major in physics, 83 major in chemistry, 10 not at major in these subjects u want to find number of students majoring in both subjects

Read 3 Solution.

Let us assume total no. of students be 83+10 = 93.

Then, no. of students failed in Physics = 93-75 = 18.

So, by hypothesis, no. of students passed in both the subjects is 75.

The question means that 75 students have passed in physics as well as chemistry but in chemistry 8 students more have passed but in physics those 8 have failed.so so in total there are 18 students failed .h

therefore 83+10=93,75+18=93 so total no. Of students are 93 and therefore no. Of students passed in both are 75.

VATSAL 8 year ago is this solution helpfull: 0 1

Let us assume P∩C=0, then total number of students=75+83+10=168

if P∩C=10, then total number of students=65+73+10+10=158

if P∩C=20, then total number of students=55+63+20+10=148

This means total number of students depends upon the number of students that study both the majors.

Therefore, data is not sufficient.
