Question
a particle moves along a straight line. Its position (x) at any instant is given by x= 32t - 8t3/3, where x is in metre and t in second. Find the acceleration of the particle at the instant particle comes to rest
Joshi sir comment
differentiate the given function and find v, again differentiate find a
compare v to 0 for rest, get t and put in a
Read 1 Solution.
velocity is given by dx/dt = 32 - 8t2 =0 ...velocity becomes zero at instant
t = √4 = 2s
now again differentiate dv/dt = -16t = acceleration at ant instant t
put the time when velocity becomes zero
a = -16 x 2 = -32m/s2= the body is retarding at this rate
