Question
What osmotic pressure would the 1.25 m sucrose solution exhibit at 25°C ? The density of this solution is 1.34 g/ml.
The answer is 28.6 atm. How???
Read 1 Solution.
Osmotic Pressure π=inRT⁄V= iMRT where C= Molarity, i=vont haff factor
for molarity M= (1000m×d)/(1000+m×Mw) --------------------------> Where m=molality, d=density, Mw=Molecular Weight of solute
= (1000×1.25×1.34)/(1000+1.25×342)
=1.733 M
Now π=iMRT
=1×1.773×0.082×298 for sucrose i=1
=28.6 atm
